Instrument hire service

If you don’t have an instrument at home (which most of you won’t) we can organise this for you. We hire brass instruments for £7.50 per month.

The average price for a private hire company is £20 per month, and the average cost of buying an instrument is £500, so we think this represents great value! As soon as you don’t need it anymore, you simply return it to your child’s school.

Some numbers that we are proud of

We believe that all children should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. School can be stressful, and music is a welcome break.

Direct debit is affordable and easy to pay

We know it’s annoying to organise payment each term, and for some families it’s a stretch to pay a whole term up-front. So BandStars uses Direct Debit, and we spread the payments across all 12 months of the year, so there are no nasty surprises. Packages start at just £18.75 per month.

Access to instruments

If you don’t have an instrument (which most of you don’t) we can sort this for you! Most companies hire instruments at £20 per month – whereas we cost just £7.50 per month, no matter which instrument you choose.

Learn with their friends

Students learn in small groups of 3 or 4 with their peers. This teaches the teamwork and listening skills needed to be in a band. And we love group teaching because it’s fun, which is essential to your child sticking with it.

Learning materials included

We provide a fully interactive book, which includes links to tutorials, play-along videos, and backing tracks. You don’t need to purchase any additional books yourselves.

Stress-free for students

The BandStars method focuses on enjoyable, fun lessons. Children work towards group performances rather than high-pressure grades.

The brass instruments we teach

Following your trial, you will have the opportunity to select one of the following lesson packages. If you also need to hire an instrument, this will be delivered to the first lesson, along with your BandStars Book.

Cornet

Suitable for: Year 2+

Closely related to the Trumpet, the Cornet is the highest (and smallest) instrument in the band. It often plays the melody, and is a great choice for younger students.

Trumpet

Suitable for: Year 2+

The trumpet is an orchestral instrument. Similar to the cornet, it's range is higher than the other instruments, and is also a great choice for younger students.

Trombone

Suitable for: Year 4+

The Trombone is the only instrument in the band that doesn’t use valves to change the notes. Instead, the trombone has a slide that moves up and down.

Tenor Horn

Suitable for: Year 2+

The Tenor Horn looks a bit like a tuba, but is much smaller. It is the second highest instrument in the band (after the Cornet), and perfect for young students wishing to one day progress to the Tuba.

Baritone Horn

Suitable for: Year 3+

The Baritone Horn sits between the Tenor Horn and the Euphonium in size. Like both of those, it is a great starter instrument for pupils wishing to one day play the Tuba.

Euphonium

Suitable for: Year 5+

The Euphonium is the second-largest instrument in the band, after the Tuba. It can play the bass line, but also gets a lot of melodies. It is larger than the Baritone Horn, and suitable for students in year 4+.

How your child will benefit from learning to play a musical instrument

Social Skills

Learning with BandStars is a social experience. Children will develop teamwork and collaboration skills through playing in a group. This can be particularly beneficial for children who may struggle with social interaction.

Improved academic performance

Playing an instrument helps to develop cognitive abilities such as: memory, concentration, and problem-solving, all of which can benefit a child's academic performance.

Patience & Perseverance

Learning an instrument requires patience, perseverance, and dedication. These are all valuable life skills that can be transferred to other areas of a child's life, such as academic studies, sports, or other hobbies.

Emotional Development

Music is a powerful tool for emotional expression and can help children to develop their emotional intelligence. It helps them to express their feelings, build self-esteem, and develop empathy for others.

Cultural Enrichment

Music is a universal language that exposes children to different cultures and traditions. Learning to play an instrument can help children to appreciate and understand different types of music, and the history and context behind it.
